Crews fight fire in dense timber country

The Busby Flat fire has burned 283 hectares.

Casino and Ellangowan Rural Fire Brigade crews rushed to a bushfire at Busby Flat at about 2pm on Monday, December 4.

When they arrived they saw that the fire was in heavily timbered and steep country.

The fire crews tried to head the fire off with backpack blowers until the fire conditions became too extreme to fight on foot.

A helicopter came to help slow the spread until heavy plant equipment came to build a containment line.

Crews from Whiporie and Tomki RFS were also on scene to help with firefighting and property protection until midnight.

Crews continued to work on containment lines yesterday, Tuesday, December 5 and will continue for coming days because of predicted hot weather.

So far, 283 hectares have burned at Busby Flat.
