Divers find two bodies in van submerged in Richmond River

The names of the two people found in a submerged van at East Wardell have not been released.

On Tuesday, September 19, emergency services were called to River Drive, East Wardell, following reports a van had driven into the Richmond River.

Police were assisted by Marine Rescue NSW and the Westpac Rescue Helicopter in the search for the van.

On Wednesday, September 20 at 9.30am, divers found the van submerged in the river.

There were two bodies seated in the van.

The bodies are believed to be those of a man and woman – both aged in their 70s.

Police urge anyone with information to come forward.

A report will be prepared for the Coroner.
