Drone and ipad used to find child missing in bushland

The Casino VRA Rescue squad was called to assist with a land search for a missing child at Tabulam last night, Monday, May 6.

At about 8.20pm yesterday, a specialist drone and pilot were used to assist police in searching for the missing 12 year old who was lost in bushland while walking their dog.

The child had an iPad and was able to contact their parents who called emergency services.

The child was able to communicate through the iPad that they could see torch lights which helped guide rescuers to their location.

Once safely with police, the drone and the siren of a police vehicle were used to bring the child back to the command post where they were checked by paramedics.

Information for this report was provided by the emergency services.
