Growers, the Northern District Exhibit team needs your pumpkins.
They are on the hunt for some cattle pumpkins to take to the Sydney Royal Easter Show and use them for the display.
Navanka Fletcher said they had generously been given some cattle pumpkins but “were on the look out for a few more.”
“Not a lot of people know this but the first prize shield is actually a combination of points for produce and points for display,” Navanka said.
“The better produce we have the more points we get and the closer we are to being the overall winner.”
Navanka said there had been funny weather for growing pumpkins this season.
“We had a dry start to the season and it has been super hot. Now we are finally getting some rain on them. Unfortunately, this has all meant it hasn’t been the best season to source them around the area.
“Cattle pumpkins are a big feature of the display and worth some good points.
“People at the show love seeing the pumpkins and how big they are, a lot of people can’t believe they are real.”
If you are located in Northern NSW and have some pumpkins that will be ready in early March for exhibition at the Sydney Royal Easter Show, call Brian on 0429 323 404.
There are volunteers who will collect the pumpkins.
The Northern District Exhibit team has also launched 100% natural cotton tea towel that will be sold at the 2024 Sydney Royal Easter Show.
This year’s tea towel was designed by Coraki graphic designer Tom Ellis. The design shows the Northern District area and some of the town’s produce is collected from.
