Four pubs will row the Clarence River to win bragging rights – and for their name on a trophy.
Bonalbo’s Dog n Bull publicans Carl and Marcy Agnew wanted to bring the pubs and the community together in the West of the Range Regatta.
Dog n Bull, Tabulam Hotel, Mallanganee Hotel and The Lunatic Hotel in Drake will be in the raft race down the Clarence this Saturday, October 19.
The raft race started in 1987 and it’s been 30 years since the pubs have competed.
“Back then it was a lot longer, we’re not going through the rapids this time,” Carl said.
“Mallanganee are bragging they’re going to win.”
Carl was keen to bring the pubs together.
“Most pubs are the hub of a little town,” he said.
He hopes the regatta makes them be part of the bigger picture west of the range.
The pub raft race is at about 2pm. The best place to view the race is from the bridge at Tabulam.
Before the pub race, in the morning, from 10am, people can come down to the river at Tabulam and have a row or paddle, Carl said.
Bring your own kayak. Journey Outdoors in Nature is providing a dozen two-person canoes for people to use.
There will be plenty of food to purchase at Tabulam Pub, CK Cafe, Tabulam Servo and the Pie Shop on the Bruxner Highway.
The day is about bringing the community together, Carl said.
Below is a map marking where to meet up to join in the fun. End down Court Street, past the pub to the track leading to the river.
