Do you fish along Bungawalbin Creek?

The creek is a popular bass fishing spot and Rous County Council has been given a $158,000 grant to restore 1,600 square metres of the fish habitat on Bungawalbin Creek.

The grant is from the State Government’s Flagship Fish Habitat Rehabilitation Grant program for the Bungawalbin Creek project.

The Bungawalbin Creek is a tributary of the Richmond River.

The project includes placing multiple types of structures (rock, snags, riverbank vegetation) together along 200 metres of the creek banks. This will provide a range of habitat types that suit a variety of fish and their life cycle needs.

State MP Janelle Saffin said Bungawalbin Creek is one of the most biodiverse areas in the North Coast region.

“It is a largely unmodified estuarine tributary with high conservation value which is rare in the Richmond Catchment,” Ms Saffin said.

“The project team has received numerous letters of support including from local OzFish Chapter, local fishing clubs and the community.
