UPDATE: $100,000 was raised at the Breast Ever Surf Comp at Evans Head on June 25.

Emma Perrier’s aunt in Brisbane died from breast cancer four years ago, spurring Emma to create a sporting event to raise money for breast cancer awareness.

Today, Sunday, June 25 at Main Beach in Evans Head, Emma was surrounded by a sea of pink at the Breast Comp Ever, a female surf competition.

It is the second year Emma has organised the event with the Evans Head Malibu Club.

“I feel so proud,” Emma said. “It’s not just about fundraising, it’s about everyone supporting women.”

This year there was a 4km walk for those who didn’t want to surf and 120 people signed up for it.

Yasmin Lawrence is treasurer of the Malibu Club and she organised the walk.

“I have an aunty and friends who have had breast cancer. They are survivors,” Yasmin said.

Sarah Ryan from Reflections Holiday Park was at the surf club with a voucher to the value of $800 for the competitors’ raffle.

Bernadette Perrier organised a bake stall where all the cakes and sweets were pink.

Spectators had the perfect sunny day to watch the surf competition and enjoy the pink vibe of Main Beach.

Here are some photos from the day. More at Breast Comp Ever Facebook page.
