If you saw the Westpac Rescue Helicopter in the sky at Evans Head at 1pm, yesterday, Monday, August 3, it was looking for a stranded watercraft.
At about 11am reports came into Ballina Marine Rescue about a man who was stranded on a sinking jet ski with engine failure near Goanna Headland, Evans Head.
Evans Head Surf Life Saving Club members were notified and four people went out in inflatable rescue boats aka rubber ducks.
”We were on the water for an hour and a half,” a rescuer from the surf club said.
It took a while to find the man on the jet ski as he was 10km south of Goanna Headland. The rescue helicopter spotted the man and alerted rescuers.
The surf lifesavers towed the man to Evans Head boat ramp. The man was uninjured.
Eight surf club members were involved in the rescue – four out on the water and two on the beach.
