More than 100 buyback homes and 250 temporary housing pods have already been made available through the Homes Reuse Program with an another 50 homes added to the program.
The Homes Reuse Program, delivered by the Reconstruction Authority in partnership with Homes NSW has made buyback homes and temporary housing pods available for affordable, social, transitional, crisis or key worker housing, or community spaces.
The Expressions of Interest closing date has been extended to October 19 giving eligible organisations such as councils more time to identify opportunities to place homes and pods back for community use.
Up to $135,000 per buyback home is available to support home removal and relocation within the Northern Rivers. The program gives priority to retaining buyback homes in the Northern Rivers.
More than half of the buyback homes have been identified as potentially suitable for relocation, with 160 homes sold through the auction program and more than 80 homeowners planning to gift or relocate their own homes.
Where homes cannot be relocated, materials are recycled or reused where practicable, with more than 450 homeowners supported to salvage materials from their buyback homes before demolition.
