Police charge man who reportedly stole cigarettes worth $5400 from supermarket

Police were called to Coles supermarket on Canterbury Street, Casino after reports of a stealing incident at 8.10pm on Friday, April 24.

At the supermarket, police were told a man had entered the service desk area of the supermarket and had stolen cigarettes worth about $5400 before leaving.

Police started to make inquiries into the incident.

At about 10.40pm that night, police spoke with a man at a taxi rank on Canterbury Street.

During a search of the man’s bag police said they found tobacco products.

A 41 year old man was arrested and taken to Casino Police Station where he was charged with larceny.

He was refused bail and will face Casino Local Court on Thursday, May 7.
