The NSW SES 2026 Young Volunteer of the Year is 21 year old Cameron Castledine from Kyogle SES Unit.
Cameron has volunteered during the 2022 floods, and more recently during ex-tropical cyclone Alfred where he stepped into a team leader role.
Over his four years at the SES Kyogle Unit, Cameron has trained in storm operations, vertical rescue, road crash rescue and on-water response.
He also plays a key role behind the scenes, helping maintain critical equipment and making sure it’s safe and ready to go when it’s needed.
Earlier this year, Cameron was appointed senior group officer where he helps lead and coordinate other members, ensuring crews remain trained, capable and ready to respond.
Kyogle Unit Commander Deb Castledine (his mother) said despite his age, he’s already a trusted leader within the Kyogle Unit and someone others look to in challenging situations.
Leaders Deb and Paul Arber have each dedicated more than six years in leadership roles, providing guidance and support to members across the unit. 
The team recently welcomed Cameron into the leadership group.
