Patrick Kreegher and his two biking mates from Brisbane had spent the morning of Sunday, April 2, exploring west of the range.
They had a meal at the Bonalbo pub and were headed to Mallanganee for the free tenors’ concert at 1.30.
At about 1pm, as Patrick rounded the corner of Willock and Tooloom streets, the front tyre of his Suzuki slid on the loose gravel of the sloping corner.
“I was going down the hill at about 40km/h,” Patrick said.
The bike skidded, Patrick fell and the motorbike fell on top of his leg which he believed was broken in the incident.
Bonalbo paramedics arrived about 25 minutes later and took Patrick to Lismore Base Hospital.
Before he was taken to hospital, Patrick said there should be signage about the loose gravel to warn motorbike riders of the danger.
Tooloom St was asphalted in November last year by Kyogle Council. The corner where Patrick slipped remains as loose gravel.
Patrick sent a message to IndyNR.com from Lismore Hospital saying his leg was broken in two places.
He said the ambulance crew were excellent and the hospital staff were making him as comfortable as possible.
