A freight spill of sugar on railway tracks near Coffs Harbour caused disruption to train services including NSW TrainLink North Coast passenger services in both directions.

The sugar spill was cleaned up and the line reopened at 3.45pm today, Thursday, August 17.

NSW TrainLink said passengers are likely to face disruption today and tomorrow with cancellations, delays or services transferred to coaches.

This morning’s 6am Brisbane to Sydney XPT (NT32) was affected. Some passengers were put on coaches from Grafton for the remainder of the journey while others were accommodated on tonight’s Casino to Sydney service.

Tonight’s 7.30pm Casino to Sydney service (NT34) will commence as road coaches from Casino to Grafton where passengers will join the XPT through to Sydney.

There are also flow-on effects into tomorrow.

Tomorrow’s 7.09am Sydney to Casino service (NT33) has been cancelled and will be replaced by coaches for the entire journey.
