Tossing gumboots and weighing frozen cane toads – it must be Australia Day

The gumboot toss is a lot more difficult than it looks.

Susanna Freymark

Australia Day at Bonalbo was a lot of fun.

Before the official awards ceremony, there was the weighing of the cane toads, something that is done every Australia Day in Bonalbo to reduce the numbers of cane toads in the area.

The heaviest toad (female) was caught by Tom Cooper and weighed in at half a kilo (500 grams).

Heavy as: weighing the frozen cane toads

The next heaviest was caught by Di Harrison. Her toad weighed 460 grams (it too was a female toad).

Runner-up was Daniela Palumbo with another female toad that weighed in at 440 grams.

Tom and Di were named King and Queen Toad.

There was the award ceremony and you can read about the winners here.

After the ceremony, there was the traditional gumboot toss followed by a golfing comp.
