TREK: School students delighted to meet Sophie and her camels who are bound for Byron Bay

Sophie Matterson, 33, is trekking 5,000km across the width of Australia. She began her journey at Shark Bay in WA.
Last week she had a stopover in Bonalbo with camels Jude, Delilah, Charlie, Clayton and Mac causing quite a stir at the Dog ‘n’ Bull Hotel.
After resting up at the Bonalbo showground, Sophie set off for Eltham and heads to Byron Bay this week, stopping at Stratheden Public School along the way.
Principal Cathy Kauter said the visit from the intrepid camels delighted the students.
“The students thought that they were wonderful,” Ms Kauter said.
“The camels have travelled from Western Australia and are on their way to Byron Bay.”

Their handlers, Sophie and Jimmy, were more than willing to let us have a pat and even a kiss from the camels, the principal said.
