One of the first duties for newly elected Richmond Valley councillors is to take the Oath or Affirmation of Office as required under the Local Government Act 1993.

Councillors Steve Morrissey, John Walker, Sandra Humphrys, Sam Cornish, Lyndall Murray, Robert Hayes and Robert Mustow will do that at a special council meeting at 6pm tomorrow, Wednesday, October 8.

Robert Mustow has been popularly elected as mayor.

At the meeting tomorrow, a deputy mayor will be chosen.

If more than one councillor puts their hand up to be deputy, it is voted on at the meeting.

This upcoming term is a historic third term for Mr Mustow. In the past two terms, Mr Morrissey served as deputy mayor.

The deputy is likely to be elected for a two-year term. Mr Mustow’s mayoral position is for four years.

At the meeting, two delegates will be selected for Rous County Council and another to represent the council on the Richmond Valley Council Local Traffic Committee

Council meetings in the upcoming term will held on the third Tuesday of the month at 6pm.  This is different in June because of budget reporting.

Anyone can attend the council meetings at the Richmond Valley Council Chambers at 10 Graham Place, Casino.
