Florence Isabella Fardon, 93, known as Fay Fardon, died on Monday July 24.

Fay was born in Alstonville on July 23, 1930, to Robert and Ella Wittleton.

She was second youngest to her brothers and sisters – Hughie, Nancy, Vere, George and Margie.

When she finished school, Fay went to Armidale to college with 28 other students. They formed a bond that lasted a lifetime. One of them, Endy Macnamara said nine of those teachers are still alive.

After leaving a failed marriage to Harrold Keast, Fay and her children, Brett, Tony and Tim moved to Wiangaree next to Chappy Aboody’s store. There were no government benefits back then so Fay taught at various schools in the area.

Fay introduced herself to her students by saying, “I beg your pardon, Mrs Fardon, there’s a chicken in your garden, eating all your cabbages with one wooden leg.”

She loved teaching and made learning fun.

Her brother Hughie and his family lived up Lynchs Creek and Fay and her family loved visiting them.

Fay met and married Fred Fardon. They had three children Norman, John and Lynette. Then together they had Chris.

Fay and Fred lived in a few places such as Dairy Flat, Dalman, Roseberry and back to Wiangaree.

When Fred went into hospital, Fay moved to Roxy Place and then to Ettrick St in Kyogle. She was looked after there by her son Chris until her death.

Fay was involved in many community and church activities wherever she went and loved everyone as much as she loved God.

She loved writing stories for the papers and did so for many years. She wrote about events in Kyogle for the Northern Star and the Express Examiner.

Fay loved life. Her aging body was her only complaint.

When her eyesight began to fail she felt embarrassed for asking, “Who was saying Hello Fay?”

She could no longer walk up town. At 93 she had led a long and wonderful life.

Fay loved her family, including her grandchildren Carl and Laura, Jeremy, Scott, Keenan, Zac and Talisa, Amos and Joanne, Sam, Joe, Ben and Britt, Jess and Josh, Brent and Kate, Jacob, Adam and Liv.

And her great-grandchildren Jade, Harry, Georgia and Tahli, Genevieve and Madeline, Zahlie Rose, Kade, Kyan and Tayne, Georgia, Evelyn and Theodore, Sophie and Amelia, Louen and Ella.

A memorial service of thanksgiving for Fay Fardon will be held on Friday, August 4 at 11am at the Kyogle Uniting Church.
