Cops stop two who now face gun charges

Two men have been charged after police found a gun in a car last night, Monday, May 1.

At 8.50pm, police stopped a white SUV on the Pacific Motorway near Broadwater.

During a search of the car, police allegedly found a firearm and number plates suspected of being stolen.

Two men, aged 31 and 43, were arrested at the scene and were taken to Ballina Police Station.

The younger man was charged with possessing an unregistered and unauthorised firearm.

The man was in Byron Bay Local Court today, Tuesday, May 2.

The older man was charged with possessing an unregistered and unauthorised firearm and with goods in personal custody suspected being stolen.

He was granted conditional bail to appear before Ballina Local Court on Thursday, June 15.
