Should Kyogle LGA residents elect their own mayor?

Councillor Janet Wilson has put forward a motion listed on the agenda for the Monday meeting of Kyogle Council.

The motion states:

“That Council be provided with a report outlining the options, requirements, indicative costs and time frame to allow the community to decide on a popularly elected Mayor at future elections.”

This information was previously given to the council at a September workshop last year and the question has been asked in community surveys.

The council meeting agenda stated :

“Community sentiment is changing and it is timely to revisit this topic to allow the community to provide council with an updated community perspective.

Councillors will discuss this at Monday’s meeting.

A peaceful rally in support of a popularly elected mayor is planned to take place outside the council chambers before the meeting on Monday, February 14 at 5pm.
