Ella and Bella name their corner shop after a retro ice block

Remember Sunnyboys, the pyramid-shaped ice blocks?

Ella and Bella do. They loved them so much they named their new corner shop in Evans Head after the treat.

Ella Bryant and Bella Mayne opened Sunnyboy five weeks ago on the first anniversary of their wedding.

They met working in a restaurant in Toowoomba.

“We’re oldies in the hospitality business,” Ella said.

They travelled around Australia, sleeping in swags and working along the way. They collected memorabilia from places they visited.  Art from those places adorns the walls of their small cafe on the corner of Booyong and Woodburn streets.

They sell plants, local ceramics, local eggs, candles, books, coffee and gluten-free treats in the newly pastel decorated shop.

The shop was a tattoo parlour and then was empty for awhile.

In the five weeks they’ve been open, the community has welcomed them.

Because they are both used to being busy, they’re looking forward to the summer season in Evans Head.

Sunnyboy is open Tuesday–Saturday from 7.30am–2pm.
