FISHING: Sunday weather looking good for boaties

The tides are starting to drop down this weekend and there is still a reasonable amount of run for some good catches in the lower reaches of the river.

Head to North Creek to catch some flathead. Prawns and pilchards make good bait, Brett Hyde from Ballina Bait and Tackle said.

There are some good numbers of bream from the mouth of the river to Pimlico Island. Cut baits like mullet and squid are the best bet.

The wind and swell are going to drop over the weekend. Sunday is the best day to fish and it’s even better on Monday if you’re lucky enough to have the day off work.

We might see the boats get offshore for the first time in a week or two, Brett said.

There are a few mulloway to be caught from the break walls and there are good numbers of mud crabs in the rivers especially during the big tides.
