A severe weather warning remains in place for the Northern Rivers.

There is a strong wind warning for Evans Head and the Byron Coast.

Richmond Valley Council advised this morning that Summerland Way was closed at Leeville because of water inundation.

Heavy rainfall recorded across the Richmond and Wilsons River catchments has caused significant river level rises along the Wilsons River and Leycester Creek.

This has the potential to cause minor flooding along the Richmond River at Coraki and Bungawalbin from today, Thursday, February 24. The river is likely to reach the minor flood level (3.40m) around 11am today.

A separate warning has been issued for the Wilsons River.

The Richmond River at Bungawalbin is likely to reach the minor flood level (3m) today.

AK Quinn Bus Services said both their Drake services would not be operating today because of flooding.

Janine Whittaker drove to Lismore from Casino at 11am and she said there was a lot of water close to the road at Pelicans Bridge near Parrots Nest.

From 9am yesterday, there was 115.2mm of rain.

Noel Pascoe said there were huge downpours at times in Casino.

“We copped 81mm in the seven hours from midnight,” he said.

Raegyn Whittle said there was 145mm overnight at Ellangowan and she can’t get to town.
