Richmond Valley Council, Ted Hoddinott, Bentley, Independent
Tell us about where you live and your family.
My family and I live on a small acreage at Bentley near Manifold Public School.
We have lived here since 1996.
My partner and I have been involved for over 20 years providing foster care for young children. We were able to adopt our daughter in 2013. Prior to our current home, we lived in Lismore for six years while I was studying for a business degree at SCU.
We moved to the beautiful Northern Rivers Region from Sydney in 1981 after we bought acreage at Barkers Vale in the Kyogle Shire.
Ted has not been a councillor before
What do you bring to the role of councillor this election?
I would like to support the experience and skill set of current councillor Jill Lyons in seeking positive outcomes for our regional community.
What brings you joy in life?
The sound of rainfall brings joy to my life as well as feeling blessed that we live in such a vibrant community. The Richmond Valley is a beautiful thriving agricultural region and I wish to pursue every opportunity that will contribute to maintaining the dynamic of sustainable agriculture for future generations.
What difficulties does your community face?
Our community faces a toxic pollution problem if a waste to energy incinerator for the Casino Jobs Precinct is approved to proceed.
What is your job? What do you like/dislike about it?
I am currently working in an administration assistant role at Casino RSM Club. I also assist with service delivery at large functions and celebrations.
Dare to dream – what is your vision for your region?
I want to ensure future generations are able to continue to nurture a sustainable agricultural region and our community is able to benefit from the job opportunities that unfold as we transition to net zero carbon emissions that threaten to destroy our planet if this goal is not embraced worldwide.
