Two pubs have generously offered help as the rain continues.
The Commercial Hotel in Casino has a limited number of rooms and is offering a reduced rate of $50 a night for members of the community who need to evacuate their homes.
Publican Marnie Macdonald wrote on Facebook:
“As the pub is not open today, I would ask that those in genuine need please send me a text message on 0414 725 695 and I will respond as soon as I am able.
“We do require a credit card swipe/number as bond and rooms at this special ‘flood’ rate will be available on a nightly basis only (paid in advance) as we do have to accommodate advance bookings.”
The Commercial Hotel in Rappville also put out a call on social media offering to help anybody who needed it or had a “concern for welfare” for someone in the community.
“Ring the pub on 6661 7102 and I can alert others that may live nearby to check as SES may not be able to get into some areas if rains continue,” publican Lisa Stewart wrote.
“If you can get to the pub safely or are in any danger (whatsoever) and can’t receive emergency services assistance/low on phone charge, ring the pub and I can ring for you – if you need refuge, please know I will open the doors for you. I’m not open for business but open to community.”
As more heavy rain is predicted Evans Head preschool announced it was underwater.
Staff were seeking an alternative venue for the coming week.
