Juicy jumble of words in mini literary event replaces writers festival

How does the taste of Literary Allsorts sound?

For readers and writers, it means a discussion of words and writers at Kyogle’s first Literary Allsorts on Saturday, June 3.

It is a change from the annual writers festival held for the past two years and the slimming down of the event to one day to give festival organisers a bit of a break.

Kyogle Readers and Writers creative director Paul Shields said they have loved organising the Kyogle Writers Festival.

“We could do with a breather this year, so the ‘big’ festival is now every second year and that gives us space to try something different this year,” Mr Shields said.

‘It’s kind of a mini-fest, if you like, just over the one day and mostly in one venue. But it’s chocka-block full of really interesting and thought-provoking talks and panel discussions and performances, everything you love about a about a bigger festival, but bite-size.’

Highlights include Indigenous author and model Sasha Kutabah Sarago in conversation with Dr Jenny Fraser, comedian Mandy Nolan giving us the low-down on comedy writing with friend Lisa Sharpe.

Gold Coast writer Tim Baker will be talking to Sally Breen about his book, Patting the Shark – an account of his experience with prostate cancer and the medical system.

Panels discussions include Creating through floods and fire and many other topics.

There is also the popular free Poets Breakfast being held at the KMI Hall Supper Rooms with Kyogle CWA.

The event wraps up with a cabaret at the Kyogle Bowls Club featuring Lisa Sharpe’s one woman show Roar hosted by Kyogle resident Odette Nettleton.

Tickets are not available yet and prices have not been released. When they are, you can book a ticket at the Kyogle Readers and Writers website from Saturday, April 22 and at the door if not sold out.
