The Woodenbong Rural Fire Brigade responded to a call to help two people at 1pm who were trapped in a Nissan ute with a horse float attached yesterday, Friday, October 21.
The ute and horse float were swept off a causeway the driver was trying to cross at Headgate Rd, Kooreelah after the heavy rain on Friday.

When police arrived the driver of the ute and a passenger — a 62-year-old man and 61-year-old woman – had climbed out of the cabin and into the tray of the Nissan waiting for help.

Because of the tree line, they were unable to be rescued by air. A NSW RFS helicopter airlifted two police onto the ute before the man and woman were rescued using ropes at about 5.15pm.

The Westpac Rescue Helicopter and ambulance were also at the scene.

It was a fortunate outcome, the Woodenbong RFS said.
