Small yarding at NRLX because of wet weather and short week

A combination of factors saw only 428 head yarded at the NRLX cattle sale today, Wednesday, April 24.

Agent Mark McCormack said the lower yarding was partly because of the drop in prices last week.

This combined with wet weather over the weekend affecting trucks getting into properties and the short week because of Anzac Day meant there weren’t many cattle for sale, he said.

Today’s yarding consisted mainly of young cattle along with a small penning of cows.

The yarding of young cattle was fairly mixed although there were a few lines of well-bred weaners through the sale.

Not all the regular buyers were present resulting in a cheaper market for all classes of cattle.

Restocker weaner steers sold from 216c to 364c, while restocker weaner heifers ranged from 176c to 266c, and vealer to process sold from 216c to 265c/kg.

The yarding of export cattle consisted mainly of cows, with insufficient numbers of grown steers and heifers for a reliable quote.

There was a smaller lineup of export buyers operating resulting in cheaper prices.

Medium weight 2 score cows sold from 150c to 174, while 3 and 4 score cows ranged from 174c to 202c/kg.
