This is it. The time of year when you wish you were a judge of the sponge cakes or pikelets.
The Kyogle Show is on today, Friday, October 7 and tomorrow, Saturday, October 8.
There are no covid restrictions. It might be cloudy but the rain could hold off until Sunday.
The first Kyogle Show was held in 1909. This year’s show promises to be a beauty.
Today, there is the judging of the horticulture section, honey, fruit cakes, scones, farm produce including hay, chaff, soybeans and maize, vegetables, fruit, eggs, home brewing, needlework, fine arts, photography, flowers, pikelets, plum pudding, damper, Anzac biscuits, homemade sweets, sponge cakes, banana cake, carrot cake, bread, slices, chutney, marmalade and so much more.
The pavilion is the heart of the show and the community.
Then, there’s the horse events, dog trials, fence post ripping and the woodchop.
In the sawing competition, technique is every bit as important as fitness and strength, whether it’s single-handed or double-handed.
A crowd favourite is the Jack & Jill sawing, where often it is a husband and wife on opposite ends of the saw.
The showgirl comp has been renamed the NSW Young Woman Competition and women aged 18–25 years enter the comp and the winner goes on to zone comps and then the winner from that comp goes to the Sydney Royal Easter Show.
