The community requested Aboriginal place names be put on town entrance signs, Richmond Valley mayor Robert Mustow said.

State MP Chris Gulaptis said the Clarence Valley had signs acknowledging the Indigenous owners.

“It’s respectful and goes a long way to recognise the importance of Indigenous culture,” Mr Gulaptis.

Woodburn, Broadwater, Casino, Evans Head and Coraki will have the Aboriginal place names put on their town signs which will be funded by the State Government.

Kyogle Council put Aboriginal place names on the town entrance signs when new signs were put up two years ago.
