An escalating cold and flu season has hit local blood supplies.
The Australian Red Cross Lifeblood is seeing up to half of all appointments cancelled and has put out a call for more people to step forward and donate blood.
The organisation is pleading with anyone who is well to book a donation today and encourage friends and family to do the same.
