Lions Rd to open on Saturday, no border pass or negative covid test required

Domestic border restrictions for people entering Queensland will end at 1am on Saturday, January 15.

The Summerland Way border will open at 1am and Lions Road at 5am on Saturday, Queensland authorities said.

Those travelling into Queensland from interstate will no longer need a border pass or have to prove they have tested negative to covid.

Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said the changes were possible because nearly 90% of Queensland’s eligible population have had two doses of the covid vaccine.

Once the 90% target is reached, changes will be made to international border rules as well.

It is likely restrictions for fully vaccinated international arrivals will lift but unvaccinated overseas travellers will still be required to quarantine.

Queensland reported six covid deaths today and almost 15,000 new cases.
