Woman injured on crossing dies in hospital

The 73 year old woman hit by a car in Casino yesterday, Thursday, April 13 died in hospital today at 2pm. She had severe head injuries and had been airlifted to Gold Coast University Hospital.

Another woman, aged 74, was also injured on the pedestrian crossing in Barker St by the same car.

The 57 year old driver was given a roadside breath test that allegedly returned a positive result.

A secondary analysis returned a reading of 0.155, more than three times the 0.05 limit.

The man was arrested and taken to Casino Police Station where he was charged with multiple offences.

A further two offences of aggravated dangerous drive causing death and dangerous drive occasioning death have been added to the driver’s charges.

The man appeared before Lismore Local Court today where bail was refused. He will be back in court on Wednesday, June 14.
