Wyan sawmill site sold, unlikely to operate again

The timber mill at Wyan has been sold.

The Tarmac Sawmilling site on Tenterfield Rd went into liquidation last July and recently sold.

The Tarmac Sawmilling Pty Ltd parent company is in South Australia and a staff member there said the mill was forced to close after the 2019 bushfires.

Trent Gibbs & Partner, also in South Australia, who are handling the business said the site had been sold.

“We can’t say any more other than it has been sold,” Mr Gibbs said.

We asked if Wyan would operate as a mill again.

“I don’t think so,” he said.

The Tarmac site at Wyan was seriously damaged in the Rappville and Wyan fires in October 2019.

When fully operational, the sawmill used to employ 27 people and its sales for the year were listed as $3.46 million (in US dollars).

It is a matter of wait-and-see on what happens next to the site, with minimal information being given by Tarmac Sawmilling and the liquidators.
