Farmers markets are having their moment. And Coraki wants to get in on the action.
If the Coraki market gets up and running, that will be four farmers markets in the area every week – Coraki, Evans Head, Kyogle and Casino.

Is this a good thing or a saturation of the market?

Demand for shopping locally has increased during covid restrictions with people staying close to home when they shop and this could be a plus for a new market.
The Coraki Uniting Church want to hold a regular home grown and homemade market every week.
They are seeking interested stallholders for a Saturday twilight market from 3-7pm to be held on the grounds of the church in Adams St.
The plan is to run the first market as a December Christmas Fair.

Casino Lions Farmers Market started a month ago and is going from strength to strength with new stalls joining for the Saturday morning market at Crawford Square in South Casino from 8-11am.

There is now a regular fresh vegetable stall run by Charlie Pirrottina from Ballina.

The Evans Head Farmers Market stays opens an hour later from today starting at 2.30-6.30pm at the surf club car park.
This is their summer daylight saving adjustment.
Market organiser Sharon Fearnside said there is usually between 10-15 stalls depending on the season.
“Through winter stalls numbers can be less, also with covid it has been tricky,” Sharon said.
“With the reduction of tourists and travel bans the number of visitors to our town has declined greatly. Many businesses in Evans Head have struggled but I’m so impressed with way we have all come together to support each other.”
Farmers markets are classified as an ‘essential food service’ the same way supermarkets are, and this is why we have been able to stay open, Sharon said.
Kyogle Farmers Market is held in Stratheden St every Saturday morning 7.30am until noon.
Anyone interested can call the market manager on 0438 323 610.
