Liam rides his way to the big race with donated silks

Jockey Liam Dau with strapper Peyton Sifko, trainer and owner of Edenville Equestrian Centre.

The riding talent of Liam Dau, 12, was captured on video as he rode in a stock saddle.

From that video, Liam was selected to ride in the Magic Millions Pony Race at the Gold Coast on January 5.

Liam is from Urbenville and rides at Edenville Equestrian Centre.  It is a four-hour return trip for Liam to get to training.

Liam is a bush rider and shows a lot of talent and tenacity as a race rider, Peyton Sifko who trains him said.

“He shows determination and passion for the industry,” she said.

Liam won’t be doing the race on his own. He’ll be riding seven year old Brown Caviar – a little Welsh pony named after the champion Black Caviar.

“He always tries 110% for Liam and has achieved huge successes in the show ring this year with Charlotte Hogg,” Peyton said.

“He is very versatile.”

Horseland donated jockey silks, riding gear and boots to Liam. Peter Painter from Kyogle Riding Club donated training gear.

Urbenville and beyond will be cheering for Liam on January 5.

Liam is an Urbenville Public School student and a talented bush poet too. His poem The Brumbies won the Dorothea McKellar Poetry Competition this year – one of the biggest poetry competitions in Australia.
