Police called a media conference today to discuss the death in custody at Casino Police Station yesterday, Sunday, March 19.

Despite questions from several news outlets at the conference, Assistant Commissioner Peter McKenna did not reveal any new information about the death of the 48 year old man while in custody at Casino Police Station.

On Sunday, the man was taken to the station after reports he had assaulted another man at the Casino Showground.

The 48 year old allegedly assaulted a police officer before he was arrested and taken to Casino Police Station.

While in custody, the man became unconscious and died.

Mr McKenna said he did not know whether the man had an underlying medical condition or whether drugs were a factor.

That information would be part of the investigation into the man’s death, he said.

The family had been notified and they were understandably upset, Mr McKenna said.
