When Izzy Miller, 14, stopped a runaway bus outside Casino High School on November 22 last year, she acted quickly and calmly steering the rolling bus to safety.

Izzy’s action stopped what could have been a disaster if the bus had hit people and petrol bowsers at the mini-mart across the road from the school.

Her actions garnered attention from media around the world.

On Australia Day, Izzy was presented with a Local Hero Award by Richmond Valley mayor Robert Mustow.

The praise and attention for Izzy’s bravery continues with the Premier Chris Minns visiting Casino High School to present Izzy with a Premier’s Award today, Friday, February 9.

“This is the first one I’ve given out,” Mr Minns said as he held up the trophy.

Mr Minns also called the names of the students who were acknowledged for good attendance and positive acts at school.

Mr Minns left Casino for Lismore to announce a partnership between Southern Cross University, Landcom and the NSW Reconstruction Authority which will unlock a parcel of university land for the development of 400 houses in East Lismore.
